            "value": "The concertina was patented by the physicist and inventor of scientific instruments, Charles Wheatstone, in 1844. The first concertinas were expensive instruments aimed at the top end of the market. The example in the showcase dates from 1853 and is built of costly materials. It has fretted ends of rosewood, and brass inlay. One of the first musicians to popularise  the concertina was the virtuoso Giulio Regondi (1822-1872). He captivated audiences all over the UK with performances of his expressive and technically demanding compositions."
