            "value": "The buhai a friction drum The name of the friction drum buhai means \u2018bull\u2019, and it is the bellowing of this animal that the instrument is thought to resemble.  To make this sound, the player\u2019s wetted hands are pulled alternately along the strand of horsehair that passes through the skin. The only time that the buhai is played is at New Year. The recording of the \u2018plough\u2019, which traditionally is recited at this time, features a buhai in the instrumental ensemble.  Here the speaker describes the cycle of work during the agricultural year."

M90-1983\nRomania\nCollected by: Harold Dennis-Jones, 14 \/ 38 Broadwater Down, Tunbridge Wells, TN2 5NX\nThe body consists of a wooden cylinder coopered together from staves.\nThe top is of rabbit (?) skin attached by a wooden hoop which is pinned into place. The bottom edge of the skin is tied down with red, yellow and blue ribbon.\nThe skin is pierced and a hank of horsehair passes through it.\nThe upper part of the body is covered with pink cloth decorated with pink and white patterned ribbon.\nAccording to Professor Liviu Comes, the buhai is used as a noise-making device during New Year celebrations.
