            "value": "There are two sets of bagpipes identified as originating from Normandy in the Horniman Museum register for 1898.  One is old number 372 (new number 3949), sold by Emslie John Horniman,  and the other is old number 374 (new number 3951).  This bagpipe is probably the latter instrument ('?Normandy' is inscribed against the object entry in the register for 3951, signifying some uncertainty as to the instrument's place of manufacture). The instrument could have been purchased in Normandy and made elsewhere in France; it has some similarities with instruments made in central France (Berry, Bourbonnais, Morvan, Limousin, Auvergne).   Graham Wells assigned the name 'cabrette' to this bagpipe, but this is normally bellows-blown. Jean-Pierre Van Hees, 5th June 2014: 'The chanter has very small fingerholes, indicating that it is perhaps an unfinished instrument. The chanter is of very thick wood. The tenor drone reed is of elder.'\nResembles 'La musette \u00ab 13 pouces \u00bb du Berry' on web page https:\/\/mediatheque.ville-chateauroux.fr\/lire-ecouter-voir\/dossiers\/dossiers-musique\/120-petit-panorama-des-cornemuses-du-centre-france#treize (accessed 2019-11-06) but the drone is much shorter.             "value": "Bag hornpipe. Leather bag, narrow at one end, where the chanter is positioned. Two long narrow arms protrude from the sides of the bag, one with a drone at the end, the other with a short, conical wooden blowpipe. Double chanter, a single piece of wood with parallel bores. The bore on the player's right has six scalloped finger holes. The left pipe has a single finger hole, which it shares with the lowest hole of the right pipe. A single, conical horn bell at the end of the chanter, angled at approximately 90 degrees. The drone is in two joints, the lower short and narrow, the upper longer and wider. The drone stock, chanter stock, drone upper joint  and the blowpipe all inlayed with metal cross pattern. Shoulder strap attached between the upper joint and the stock of the drone."
