            "value": "Tar, lute. The body, carved from one piece of wood, is deeply waisted so that the face resembles a figure of 8. The soundtable is a replacement of the original membrane, stretched over the two chambers. The back has an elaborate inlay of geometrical patterns  in coloured woods and bone. The long neck has 25 frets of gut (here mostly replaced with string). The fingerboard is black with bone edging. The neck terminates in a peg-box of the same width but greater depth. The peg-box has been hollowed out with an eight pointed star cut out one either side. There are five lateral pegs, for two double courses and one single course of strings. The pegs are wooden, lathe turned and with knobs at their ends; the knobs are inlaid with alternating strips of bone and wood, with bone tips. The five strings pass over a bone nut, and a horn bridge; they are secured to a metal end-pin at the base of the instrument."
