The piece is made from wood with wooden partitions creating smaller compartments. 5 of these are covered with small lids. 2 are closed off completely. 1 contains a rectangular insert with recesses for 2 thimbles. 1 thimble is contained within this section. 3 of the lids are moved with 2-tiered mother of pearl knobs. 1 of these contains 2 metal needles. 2 of the lids have fabric pulls. All top edges, lids, covers and the insert for the thimbles are covered with red satin.  The underneath of the lids is covered with floral embossed paper. The rest of the tray is covered with silver-coloured paper. On both shorter sides a metal ring has been inserted as a pull."
