            "value": "Boy's hat in the shape of a scholar hat. The crown is made in three sections: a horizontal brow band, an upper part covering the crown, and a curved freestanding band which arches over the top. The brow band is in lilac, bordered in black, with floral embroidery and nine amber Buddha figures etched in white. The reverse of the brow band is purple, with a cockerel design and a pink bow. The upper section is cream with an embroidered five petal design featuring a butterfly and flowers, outlined in gold thread. On the reverse is an embroidered cockerel on a black ground. The top curved arch is of padded black cloth with tassels in pink and green thread. This arched headpiece features seven Chinese characters on either side, which read 'shou bi nan shan gao mo bing', or 'There is no long life stay higher than the Southern Mountain', which is a wish for long life, and on the other side 'ming qi bei dou gu lai xi', which reads 'There is rarely honour at the same level as the 'Northern Dipper'', which is a wish for the wearer to receive official honour as high as the 'Northern Dipper'.",

            "value": "Oval shaped hat. Made in three sections: a horizontal band, an upper part made of two panels which cover the crown, and a a curved padded band which arches over the top. The band is in lilac satin embroidered with floral designs on the front and a phoenix and chrysanthemum on the reverse. At the middle of the reverse is a pink satin bow. Along the lower edge of the front are 9 amber[?] Buddha figures etched in white. The band is edged with black fabric above and below.  Thefront middle section is a shaped panel covered in black fabric embroidred with a design of cockerel and flowers, edged in couched gold foil. The panel on the reverse in covered in cream fabric in an irregular shape of five downward poitnting petals, each embroidered with a floral design, the centre petal with a butterfly, the panel edged in gold foil couched with black thread.  A blue shape has been appligued at the top centre of the panel, also edged with couched gold foil, with black seed stitches over it. Top section is black cloth with 7 Chinese characters embroidered on the front and 7 others on the reverse. To each side of this top section is a pair of knotted  tassels, one in pink and one in green thread. Good condition."
