Gordon indicates that he had sold a large number of terracottas to the BM and to the Indian section of the Victoria and Albert Museum, and that these were 'the best of the residue'. He adds that they 'cover a fair number of both types and sites'. No further indication of the nature of the figures. The terracottas nn15837-nn15850, nn3707.1-nn3707.33 and nn17487 to nn17503 equate to 7.2.52\/1 -7.2.52\/37 and 24.4.53\/1 - 24.4.53\/28. 65 objects from Gordon in two lots and 62 nns with 3 not accounted for. The head has large half-moon ears, sleepy eyes scraped into shape, and a small mouth. Clearly this figure was carrying something on its head, or may have been part of a support, or leg for some now lost larger object.   \n\nMarked on the back in black ink with 'Kaus' (ie. Kau\u015bamb\u00ef, Kau\u015bamb\u012b District, Uttar Pradesh, India, situated about 35 miles south-west of Allahabad.)\n\nArchaeological context: presumably unstratified and from a surface collection.\n\nEarly Historic Period, late centuries BCE.\n\nGiven by Col D H Gordon (1952\/3)."
