            "value": "Ken Teague wrote to a correspondent in 1987 as follows: 'Visnupada are found in several parts of India e.g. Rajasthan, Kangra-Himachal Pradesh, Orissa and Bengal. Visnupada are also often seen as metal, openwork stamps, chhapa, inscribed with the auspicious symbols and characters, e.g. prayers to Krishna. Such stamps are used for applying the design in a thin paste, gopichandan, to the worshipper's body. They are especially popular among the Caitanya cult of Krishna, who was revealed as the god when he left Vishnu's footprints on earth. The stamps are often made at Caitanya's birthplace, Nadia, in west Bengal, where there is a brass working industry which makes the cult's apparatus. The Visnupada reflects the created world and, as the foot of the god, is that part which is nearest to mankind, hence its worship despite its worldly connotation of low value.'"
