            "value": "This amulet consists of a block of pale stone (perhaps sard or carnelian?) engraved with the  \u2018Ayat Al Kursi\u2019 (\u0622\u06cc\u062a \u0622\u0644\u06a9\u0631\u0633\u06cc ) from the Quran (Surah 2:255). \n\nWhen engraved on jewellery the Ayat Al Kursi provides protection for the jewellery's wearer. Some Muslims say the Ayat Al Kursi when they leave home so that they may be protected for the day ahead. In many Muslim homes a copy of the Ayat Al Kursi is hung on the wall to provide protection for the household. Muslim children are taught the Ayat Al Kursi from a young age.\n\nSir Al Hajj Muhammad Zafarullah Khan's (1971)  interpretation of the Ayat Al Kursi in English reads as follows: \n\n\u201cAllah is He save Whom none is worthy\nof worship, the Ever-Living, the Self-\nSubsisting and All-Sustaining. Slumber\nseizes Him not, nor sleep. To Him belongs\nwhatsoever is in the heavens and what-\nsoever is in the earth. Who is he that dare\nintercede with Him, except by His per-\nmission? He knows all that is before them\nand all that is behind them, and they\ncannot compass aught of His knowledge,\nexcept that which He pleases. His knowl-\nedge extends over the heavens and the\nearth, and the care of them wearies him\nnot. He is the Most High, the Most Great.\""
