            "value": "The interlinked sleeves here constitute a very unusual 'mudra'. Robert Knox says he does not remember having seen this feature in any other Gandharan work. Overall he thinks there is something slightly 'odd' about the object. On close examination however, the schist is very similar to the schist used in other Gandharan carvings in the collection, the reverse is tooled in a similar way and is marked with a black charcoal \/ crayon number as are all the other Gandharan schist objects. None of this is conclusive, but the carving of the face and the wear on it is consistent with comparable Gandharan objects. Robert Knox suggests that we can err on the side of real rather than fake, although the joined sleeves certainly need further investigation.
