            "value": "The thread-cross is often made to provide a temporary home for a deity during a particular ritual. The basic structure of the thread-cross consists of two thin sticks arranged with one crossing the other and interlinked with a neat geometric web of woven threads. The colours of the threads and order in which the colours are arranged pertains to the specific ritual performed.\n\nRansoms (glud tshabs) such as nn3658.1-3 or dough effigies like those which would have been made by moulds (zan spar) nn3653 and nn4430 would sometimes be set up at the base of a thread-cross.\n\nIn wrathful or subjugating rituals the thread-cross is deployed as a trap into which evil spirits are lured by specific offerings. The threads ensnare the spirt and the cross is then destroyed by burning or breaking or leaving  at a crossroads or a lonely place. Thread-crosses can be erected on the roofs of homes or monasteries to protect the inhabitants by trapping wandering ghosts or spirits."
