            "value": "The bowls are shaped by hand from a paste of animal dung and water, then painted  with a thin coating of gum mixed with red earth slip. While the surface of the bowl is still soft, they trace the designs with a piece of grass and apply colours with a feather. The different colours come from local materials - white from whitewash; black from soot collected from cooking pots; red from local soil, and blue from commercial \u2018blueing\u2019.\nDung bowls are highly symbolic \u2013 their designs which bear vital cultural meanings, are similar to those used on houses and male bodies. They are easily broken and disintegrate immediately if exposed to fire or water."
