The individual triangles have been decorated with chevrons, diagonals or stripes. The other sides are framed by a solid black band. The main decoration  consists of 2 wider bands, separated by a narrower band. The wider bands are divided into smaller rectangular fields decorated with shorter diagonals, foliate, floral and geometric motifs dotted across the ground. The rectangles are separated by sets of stripes which have  foliate, scalloped or dentate borders. The centre band contains a middle band with foliate\/star shaped motifs. This is bordered with bands containing changing geometric motifs based on diamond shapes or undulating lines."

                    "transcription": "G (K-R) 73; probably Samoa; 82x341cm; mulberry tree; I am not quite sure this tapa is Samoan, because the general outlook (?) is not the Samoan kind of tapa. But there is much that refers to Samoa: the rectangulars in which the figures are painted,; the figures itself (which are clearly ahndpainted) the star-motif, the sun, the diagonals, the small diamonds. The paint seems black, a color not so often used, for the whole tapa is Samoa, but when you examine it carefully it appears to be a very dark brown color. The ends of the tapa are printed. I saw a same-like tapa (Samoa) in the ethnogr. dept. of the British Museum (monsterbook); literature nos 1-3-6-7-10-12-12; Lab 3683"
