One of eight papercuts from the northwest provinces of China. An orange brown papercut of a quail done using knife-cutting technique, pasted on beige paper. Quail in Chinese is 'an', which is a homophone of 'peace'. Papercuts of this type are used as decorative ornaments during Chinese New Year, pasted on to windows to express a wish for a peaceful year.
