Annette Foerger

Annette Foerger is a Senior Gardener and has worked at the Horniman since November 2021.
Annette joined the Gardens team at the Horniman in 2021. A musician by training, she enjoyed a career in classical music management and opera both in Germany and the UK, until she decided to follow her lifelong interest in plants in 2018 by embarking on a RHS Level 2 Diploma in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture. During her apprenticeship at Fulham Palace House and Garden, she also gained her RHS Level 3 Diploma. In her approach to gardening, she strives to let nature lead the way whilst creating a place for people to enjoy, and to garden sustainably with a low intervention approach wherever possible. She hopes that gardeners everywhere will realise that with this, they can have an important impact on tackling the biodiversity and climate crises. Annette lives in North London with her family and enjoys preserving and eating the fruit and veg she grows in her own garden, going to the opera and travelling to botanical destinations.

Professional qualifications

In addition to her horticultural qualifications, Annette holds a MA in musicology and German literature, and a Diploma in classical and jazz saxophone.

Annette has published a book about Hans Werner Henze’s opera Der Prinz von Homburg.
