The Great Walrus Tea Party

Thanks to everyone who took part in the Great Walrus Tea Party to support the Horniman.

On Wednesday 24 June 2020, we asked our supporters to join in the fun and host a virtual tea party and make a donation.

It was lovely to see so many people being creative and having online tea parties with colleagues and friends, socially distanced picnics and family tea parties at home. We were blown away by impressive bakes, online walrus quizzes and virtual biscuit decorating competitions.

Together you baked a huge variety of different walrus-inspired and ocean-themed cakes and biscuits – a splendid virtual banquet which really tickled our taste buds.

The Great Walrus Tea Party 2020 may not have been quite as originally planned, due to the lockdown, but our supporters raised over £1,000 in much-needed online donations.

Jo Brand says:‘Thank you for all your toothsome cakes and flipp(er)ing good fundraising for the Great Walrus Tea Party. We’ve loved seeing your bakes, and the money you’ve raised will help the Horniman Museum and Gardens to inspire future generations of London’s families and school children with lifelong curiosity.’

We can’t wait to do this all over again next year and hope you’ll join us! Watch this space and follow us on Twitter @hornimanmuseum to hear about the Great Walrus Tea Party 2021.

You can still make a donation to support the Horniman.
