About this event

All Together Now: a music club for families with disabled children

Join Live Music Now and the Horniman for an interactive and fun session of music making for families with disabled children and their siblings.

In June we’ll have Halva Ensemble performing.

Halva is a sweet treat made from tahini (sesame paste) and honey, common in the Middle East. Halva Ensemble plays sweet music from around the world that will make you dance and sing-along. Tim Karp and Noga Ritter created Halva Ensemble in order to share their passion for music from around the world, exchanging songs, rhythms and stories.

Live Music Now is a charity with over 37 years experience of working with young professional musicians and children and young people with special needs. They are working in partnership with the Horniman to offer a bi-monthly music club for families with children with disabilities and their siblings.

It was developed in response to parental frustration at the lack of opportunities for families of children with special needs to enjoy the same musical event together.

Live Music Now has an interactive approach to promoting the therapeutic benefits of live music. Sessions are comprised of a short art and craft activity (usually making a musical instrument), followed by a performance from the young musicians and then an interactive session where families join in making music using both the musicians' instruments and objects from the Horniman's handling collection.
