Come and celebrate the beautiful colours of spring with performances, storytelling and fun family activities.

Continue your exploration of colour with a visit to our interactive family exhibition Colour: The Rainbow Revealed (admission charge, free entry for Members and Benefactors).

Colour Animated

Location: Music Gallery Performance Space (room at the end of the Music Gallery through glass doors)


  • 10am – 11am
  • 12.15pm – 1.15pm

Drop in to watch some short animations inspired by our new exhibition Colour: The Rainbow Revealed.  The animations have been created by second year students on the London College of Communication’s BA Animation course. (Please note films will be turned off during storytelling sessions)

Suitable for all ages

Plant up a Pallet

Location: Wildlife Garden (turn left as you come in through the London Road gates to the Gardens)


  • 10.30am – 12.30pm
  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Drop by our Wildlife Garden and watch our Gardens Team create some spring colour. Watch as they make a planter from old wooden pallets and plant it with some flowers that will help to brighten up the garden in late spring and summer.

Seed Bombs

Location: Wildlife Garden (as above, relocated to Education Centre in wet weather)


  • 10.30am – 12.30pm
  • 1.30pm – 3.30pm

Then have a go at making your own “seed bomb” to take away and do some guerilla planting of your own.

Suitable for all ages.

Spring Stories

Location: Music Gallery Performance Space (room at the end of the Music Gallery through glass doors)

  • 3pm - 3.45pm

Listen to vibrant folktales that glisten and shine - tales of blue skies, green frogs, painted flowers, rainbows and more. This spring storyteller, Olivia Armstrong, has gathered the most golden, gleaming, glowing tales to dazzle and delight.

Recommended for ages 3+ but open to all.

Put some spring in your step with Afrosamba, a Brazilian duo covering styles such as Afro Brazilian Jazz, Samba and Bossa Nova.

Recommended for ages 3+ but open to all.

Trail Desk – Colours of Spring

Location: Natural History Gallery

Drop by our trail desk to pick up some trails to explore the Museum and Gardens.

Please note we may have to close the desk over the lunch period.
