No advance booking, just turn up on the day. Queuing may be necessary during busy periods.

About this event

Join us for a day celebrating bees.

Take part in the annual Great British Bee Count initiative organised by Friends of the Earth, and take part in some family-friendly bee activities.

Colour Animated

  • Times: 10am – 4pm  
  • Location: Music Gallery Performance Space (through glass doors at end of Music Gallery)

Drop in to watch some short animations inspired by our new exhibition Colour: The Rainbow Revealed.  The animations have been created by second year students on the London College of Communication’s BA Animation course.   

Suitable for all ages.

Bee Talks

  • Times:
    • 10.30am
    • 11.45 am
  • Location: Education Centre

In the morning join entomologist (insect expert) Richard ‘Bugman’ Jones for some family friendly talks about bees.  

Each session lasts approximately 35 minutes.

Recommended 5+ years but open to all.

Great British Bee Count

  • Times: 1.30pm – 3.30pm
  • Location: Gardens

In the afternoon join Richard in our Gardens to see how many different types of bees you can spot. 

Drop-in. Recommended 5+ years but open to all.

Make a Bee Home

  • Times: 
    • 10.45am – 12.15pm
    • 1.15pm – 2.45pm
  • Location: Gardens (relocated to Pavilion in wet weather)

Join our volunteers making homes for solitary bees out of bamboo.

Drop-in, though we may need to limit numbers during busy times.

Recommended 5+ years but open to all.

Gardener Talks

  • Times:

  • Location: Gardens

Come along and meet Nick, one of our Gardeners, and hear about the planting of the new Colour Wheel in our Sunken Garden.

Each talk lasts approximately 15 minutes.

Bee Stories

Come along and listen to traditional folk tales and stories inspired by bees.

Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Recommended for ages 3+ but open to all.
