About this event

Join us for Wonderful Wednesdays in the summer holidays for free, drop-in family activities. Meet some of the community partners who make the Horniman wonderful.

Every Wednesday come and enjoy storytelling from around the world and have a go at rag rug-making in drop-sessions run by the Horniman's Studio Collective.

Additional activities running on selected Wednesdays:

  • 24 July – Celebrate London National Park City Week with us and learn about the wildlife on your doorstep. Explore with help from bug and tree experts, have a go at our new sensory trail. Meet some friendly owls and look out for time-travelling Miss Horniman with stories of the Horniman's Gardens in Victorian times.
  • 31 July - Kite-making workshops run in partnership with Arts Network
  • 7 Aug - A day of play to celebrate National Play Day garden games including natural play, toy-themed object handling in the galleries and a school marching band visiting from Norway.
  • 14 Aug - Rock painting sessions run in partnership with Arts Network
  • 21 Aug - Help The Studio Collective make a giant community rag rug. Come back in October to see your work displayed in The Studio.
  • 28 Aug - Join mental health charity, Arts Network in creating a Paint by Numbers Collaborative Artwork and then see how your colourful contribution adds up to create a big piece of artwork. We'll also have some roving characters from a forthcoming play of Pinocchio, by local theatre company Spontaneous Productions in the Gardens and Galleries.

Please note that all of our activities require a minimum of one adult for every four participating children in a visiting group.
