Adrian Holloway
Adrian Holloway is the Collections Manager and has responsibility for the Study Collections Centre (SCC) the Horniman's off site storage facility.
He and his team manage many of the logistical challenges around the collections including the packing, transport and location of collections and all loans to and from the Horniman. Providing collections access to a wide variety of visitors to the SCC is a key priority.
Adrian trained in Product Design before starting his museum career as a Yeoman on HMS Belfast. After joining the Horniman in 1996 as a Collections Assistant he worked on installation of the African Worlds gallery (1999-2016) and the development of the Centenary Gallery (2001-2016). Adrian completed his Museum Studies MA at UCL in 1999. Between 1999 & 2002 he was the Music Gallery Project Coordinator before returning to the Collections Management team in 2003.
Leaving for the Imperial War Museum 2004-06 as Storage Projects Manager he returned to the Horniman as Collections Manager in 2006. He has overseen numerous storage projects at the SCC to increase capacity and to improve the care and visibility of stored collections (or outsourcing where required) and supported collections reviews and research, access and engagement projects.
Key achievements include the decant and installation of thousands of objects to facilitate the World Gallery (2018) and the decant of the Natural History Gallery in 2024 (including the movement of the Walrus for temporary storage).
Adrian enjoys the variety of projects and challenges in this role and working with colleagues and partners to achieve positive results.
