Ceramics Workshop with Neve Beill – Turning London Clay into Pots

The session begins with an introduction from Neve, followed by a guided walk through the Horniman Gardens with a member of the Gardens team. Together, you’ll explore the landscape beneath your feet, learning about the earth, soil, and London Clay that shapes the city.

You’ll then be invited to create your own hand-built pot using reclaimed London Clay, sourced from local construction sites, a material that would otherwise be destined for landfill. Guided by Neve, you’ll learn traditional hand-building and coiling techniques to create your own unique ceramic pot. You’ll also discover ways to add decorative textures and surface details inspired by natural forms and historic pottery traditions.

Your finished pot will be fired after the workshop and available to collect at a later date.

No previous ceramics experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those looking to develop their making skills.
