Busk It Live!
Busk It Live! brings a wide variety of musical genres to the Horniman, from artists who create and perform their own music.
These free one hour performances from the Horniman’s buskers will take place during February and March. Enjoy live music as you sit in the stunning Victorian Conservatory.
Each of the buskers will also create a new composition, inspired by a Horniman object or set of objects, to be premiered on one of their performance dates.
Don’t miss these very special free and informal gigs. Everyone welcome.
The three buskers are:
Violet Brace – Keyboard and vocals
Violet is a graduate from the Royal Academy of Music’s jazz course and has performed at Ronnie Scott’s, Club 606, and the Roundhouse as well as festivals including Bestival, Secret Garden Party, Cheltenham Jazz Festival and Glastonbury. Heavily inspired by the neo-soul movement of the nineties and early 2000s, she describes her music as English soul, layering harmonies to create textured and evocative compositions.
See Violet Brace on Thursday 17 February and Friday 18 March.
Ben Gunnery – Irish fiddle and classical violin
Born in Dublin, Ben was bought up in London of Irish and French parentage. In his formative years Ben won the under 16 All Ireland fiddle competition and the Bach Unaccompanied Violin Competitions and attended the prestigious Menuhin School. Ben graduated at the Royal College of Music and Trinity College of Music London under Gillian Findlay and Hugh Bean respectively. Ben is a multi instrumentalist and multi genre artist who has toured extensively.
See Ben Gunnery on Friday 25 February (Gallery Square) and Tuesday 15 March.
Damian Clarke – Hammer dulcimer and hurdy-gurdy
Damian Clarke continues his mission to present the wonderfully exotic Hammer Dulcimer and Hurdy Gurdy. He is currently the only touring UK performer of these instruments who also sings. An international entertainer, his concerts are multi-faceted, with stories and sing-alongs, fun, history and romance. His instruments provide a refreshing change of sound; haunting, evocative and stirring.
See Damian Clarke on Tuesday 15 February and Thursday 17 March.
