Shola introduces: Life’s Secrets

Join Musician in Residence Shola for a live performance of music, worked on during her residency at the Horniman.

Inspired by the esoteric traditions of the Senufo people from her maternal home, Shola will perform a composition exploring themes of circularity, tradition, and inner peace. With guitarist Lamar, she will guide you through distinct stages of life which reflect the strong cultural influences on young adults with African roots.

Accompanied by imagery created in collaboration with artist Oulayma Conteh the music will combine with animation, digital art, and AI imagery. Referencing both Afro-Futurism, and Shola’s own contemporary style, the visuals show us the universality of tradition with a modern representation of age-old messages.

DJ Blvck Navy will set the scene, playing afro-spiritual music.

Event information

There will be two performances at 7pm and 8.30pm, each lasting 20 minutes.

This event is part of Horniman Lates.

Musicians in Residence

The Musicians in Residence programme showcases the vibrant music scenes of south London. Three talented musicians have been creating new music and narratives that engage with, respond to, and offer fresh insights into our collections. As part of their residency these artists are recording original music, co-curating digital artworks, developing live visuals and producing three captivating performances.
