textile (function unknown); textile

Long, rectangular piece of linen textile probably a towel, napkin or sash with selvedges at the longer edges. Two or three thicker unplied wefts are inserted at regular intervals into the unplyed cotton ground to give self-coloured bands . At the warp ends are identical embroidered borders made up of a row of three oval-shaped motifs. Each motif has a pale pink flower, on a stalk, to which are attached nine white 'leaves'. The embroidery is worked in coloured silk threads and metal-wrapped thread and metal strip. Between the fringe and the three motifs is a row of pulled thread work.
