There will be tree works in the Gardens this week – please follow signs on site. The lift will be out of service until Friday 28 June while we work on a replacement.
Carved wooden areca nut pestle made from a grey black hardwood with a handle in the form of a human figure whose arms become scrolls and whose feet, knees and belly form an elaborate symmetrical scroll. There is a secondary facial representation within the body of the figure.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
