Dark brown, open weave basket/ bag with twine made from the skin of the bark of the grape vine wrapped around uprights, rounded base, plaited straw around the rim and a thin, flexible carrying cord. Rough finish.
Nearly all Ainu sacks, bags and baskets have fenestrated edges not just for ornament but to provide a useful grip and so that the sack can be closed tightly by running a purse-string through the openings.
