Rectangular length of cotton textile decorated with hand-drawn double-sided batik in brown (soga) and blue (indigo) on a cream ground. 3 sides of the textile have been hemmed. The decoration consists of a centre panel surrounded by 3 borders. The centre panel contains wing ('lar') and foliate motifs, as well as phoenixes, on a cream ground divided by short curved lines. The centre border is decorated with a lattice band. The complete diamonds are coloured in blue. This is framed by predominantly blue borders with undulating patterns in cream and brown. In the background the wax has been cracked and the cloth overdyed to produce a marbling effect. Possibly made for use as a kemben.
