stage of manufacture (pastimes: toys)

Semi-circular wooden block for making toy cows. The ring is shaped so that slices cut from it are in the shape of a cow's body. One of 17 specimens illustrating the stages in making wooden cows and elephants. The technique used is one of turning a large block on a lathe to produce in cross-section the shape of the animal desired. Individual animals are then cut radially from the block and finished.
