sample (textile); textile

Rectangular piece of embroidered cotton textile. The patterning consists of a row of motifs: two eight-pointed stars within a square and six square-shaped motifs. The stars' outline is blue and infilled with white, pink, red, yellow and green threads. (All threads are wool (?) save for the white, which is silk.) Between the two stars are two square-shaped motifs. These are worked in the same colours as the stars. A further two square-shaped motifs have been embroidered on the outside of the stars. The ground is worked in orange-coloured woollen thread and there are two small areas of pulled thread work, framing the patterning.
