Clarinet in B flat, boxwood, ivory mounts, brass thumb rest. In five sections. Thirteen brass keys (including hinged F/C), round, stuffed, mounted on pillars. Crossover G sharp key and back to front speaker key. Sounding length (length without mouthpiece) is 58.9 cm. Some incipient cracking in bell-rim. Mouthpiece broken at tip. Dark brown wood mouthpiece with Sax inscription and numbered 6920 is contemporary. Stamped: Sax Brussels (Eight-pointed star mark). Numbered 7947. Eugenia Mitroulia's "A Newly Proposed Scheme for Dating All Numbered Wind Instruments by Adolphe Sax" (Historic Brass Society Journal) dates this instrument to 1850.
