211.251.1 Individual single-skin conical drums

Conical drum.

Single-membrane conical drum. Slender conical shell wooden shell with open lower end. Lizard skin membrane, its edge folded upwards, with a hoop of plaited cane sewn through the two layers. This is tensioned with elaborate cane lacings that are secured at a raised ring in the wood towards the lower end. The ring has ten holes running vertically for the lacing to pass through. Two semicircular ridges on one side of the shell, each with a lateral hole for a shoulder strap. Both the strap and a plaited band around the lower rim are also of cane.
