Spring balance employing the tension in a penanular iron band. Inside the circle of this band is a scale on a crescent of brass. Different scale on either side. To two points on the iron band, iron hooks are attached, a smaller one is placed near one end of the band and weight placed on it moves a needle along the scale reading from 0-40lb. A larger hook nearer the middle of the iron band moves the needle along the scale on the other side of the crescent of brass (10-300lb). The needle itself is fixed to the lower end of the spring. Two loops of iron for suspending the balance correspond to the two positions of use.
