

Short smock or blouse. Straight bands of material are cut out, gathered at the neck and reinforced by a collar. The sleeves are typical of the old Romanian peasant costumes and have a local feature, the “riuri” or riverlike embroidery of the sleeve which continues over the smocking reaching the shoulder. The designs embroidered in a special kind of stitch typical of this area are brightened by silver thread and tinsel, which are commonly used in the Region of Pitesti.
