sample (textileworking: dyeing & printing)

Rectangular, tabby-woven, cotton sample decorated with tie-dyed patterns in cream, on a red or black ground. Some patterns have been coloured blue or yellow. The textile has been left unfinished on both shorter sides. The decoration creates a centre panel and different borders on the shorter and longer sides. The panel is decorated with a central circular pattern, surrounded by a lattice containing rings in each diamond. The borders contain an inward-facing dentate pattern, followed by one containing a zigzag. On the shorter sides is an additional border of outward-facing floral motifs.
