Valiha, idiochord tube zither. A tube zither of bamboo with sixteen strings formed from the solid body, bound at each end with brown fibre: two burnt-in sound-holes in body: with thirty-two bridges of various sizes and designs. Undecorated. Purchased by the donor in the market in Antananarivo between 1969 and 1971, who considered that the instrument was made for the tourist trade.
