bracelet (adornment)

Heavy brass bracelet, incomplete circle with two heavy knobs on an octangle semicircle; inscribed with circles, dots and lines.

These copper or copper alloy bracelets from the Hausa city of Kano are similar to Tuareg bracelets of the elkiss type usually made in silver. They are one of many cultural and utilitarian products that are shared by the two groups and which illustrate a history of interaction and exchange that has taken place between Hausa and Tuareg over several centuries.
