incense clock; plate (containers)

A copper cover plate for a powdered incense clock, in the shape of a ruyi-sceptre with pierced Chinese inscriptions in bronzeware script. It is used to cover the incense clock to prevent any breeze that would accelerate the burning and alter the measure of time.
