cow bell (bell (domestication of animals)

Cow bell with open sides and a clapper suspended from two intertwined metal rings.

Lou cow bell made from iron. Bells such as this are often made by local blacksmiths, occasionally using locally smelted iron, and common in pastoral areas. The bell is worn by the cow who seems to lead the others, tied round the neck so that its sound can be heard by the other following cattle.
