textile; coat (clothing: outerwear)

Woman's sleeveless cotton coat, woven in a 2.2 twill. It has a 'V' shaped centre front with no fastenings. Embroidery covers all of the front, from the shoulder seam to below the bustline. There is a broad, diamond lattice panel, worked in red, purple, black and yellow woollen threads. A strip of embroidery with diagonal lines using these colours runs along the front opening. A full applied fringe, made up of fine red and black threads covers the arm holes. The same style of fringing is used on the lower part of the side seams.
