waistcloth; textile

Long rectangular red and green cotton waistcloth. It has a large green lozenge-shaped motif in the centre panel set against a reddish ground. The panel is executed in a tapestry type technique (weft dominant, twofold). To either side of this is a wide pink stripe, which is broken up by three narrow stripes. The central stripe is pink/yellow and framing it are pale blue/pink stripes. These are worked in a warp dominant tabby ground with a continuous supplementary warp bound in a diamond twill pattern. The warp ends are unfinished. [Textile]
