blankets (clothing: outerwear); textile

A large, rectangular piece of multi-coloured cotton textile made up of many sections and sewn together. The central panel has seven strips, of circa 145 mm width, machine sewn together at the selvedges. The patterning consists of a diamond motif, alternating with a diamond motif with hooks. These are worked in continuous supplementary warp. The ground is predominantly red, and the colours in the stripes are purple, cream, green and yellow. There is a wide border attached to each warp edge. The patterning is red, black, green and cream zig zags, again worked in continuous supplementary warp. This border has an attached twisted red fringe which, at one end, is not visible from the front because the ends have been turned over and stitched.
