Doll (female). Papier mache body, arms made of wood covered in gesso. Head, probably by Armand Marseille, has articulated eyelids. Doll may have been bought in the market wearing the white cotton undergarments and then dressed in the outer garments. These consist of a skirt of machine-printed cotton, short-sleeved blouse gathered at the cuff, an apron with trim and strip of simple embroidery, a headscarf of machine printed fabric. The shoes are of plaited straw, with binding on the calves.
