glove puppet

Glove puppet of a mature man with a large moustache made from cloth. The head is made from a gourd. Facial features include prominent ears; a button nose and large eyes. The expression is sober. The puppet is clothed in a brown 'fur' (imitation) hat; a striped robe (red, blue, silver, green and lemon) trimmed with a glittering fabric down the front opening and around the cuffs and hem. Padded beige cloth hands. Probably a generic character, mature man or heroine's father?

Clothes for puppets are made by the puppet maker's female relatives or wife.

Collected from the maker who has his workshop in the Mohammed Rachim Kham madrassah near the Ark in Khiva.
