Lid for a lacquered wooden box from in the shape of a durian. The exterior surface of the domed lid has been carved with spikes and a stalk above, all painted a gold colour. The smooth inside is lacquered red. This type of box was used as a container for such things as betel ingredients. The fruit represented is of symbolic significance in Malay culture.
