Lacquered wooden box in the shape of a durian. The bowl-shaped box-section has been carved with exterior spikes which have been painted a gold colour. The exterior surface of the domed lid has been carved with spikes and a stalk above, all painted a gold colour. The smooth inside of the box and the lid are lacquered red. The top of the saucer rim is has been coloured gold and the centre of the top and the underside of the rim are lacquered red. The circular foot has been left plain.

This type of box was used as a container for such things as betel ingredients. The fruit represented is of symbolic significance in Malay culture.
