hanging (soft furnishings: hangings); textile

Rectangular hanging decorated with a central red, white and blue-black ikat panel. The panel is framed by solid stripes in the same colour. The shorter sides of the tabby-woven, cotton textile appear to have been cut. The panel is decorated with a crucifix under 2 arches. The bottom of the panel is framed by dotted bands. The top is framed by a zigzag. The textile could be used as a wall hanging, dashboard cover etc. Made at a Mission, and widely used by Christian Iban.

Collected for its combination of traditional technique and style and Christian imagery
