songket; skirt; textile

Tubular skirt, sarung, made using the songket technique of metal thread supplementary weft on a silk base. The silk skirt cloth is decorated with a wide central band of patterning which is bordered above and below with 4 narrow bands. Most of the main field is patterned with gold-coloured floral medallions on a dark red, cotton ground, with a kepala panel consisting of a vertical row of opposing triangles. The borders contain geometric or floral patterns. They are separated by paired narrow bands. The shorter sides have been sewn together to create the tubular skirt.
