banner (ritual & belief: representations); textile

Rectangular, cream-coloured banner decorated with an embroidered circular motif. The tabby-woven cotton textile has been hemmed by machine on both shorter sides. The circular embroidery consists of a central pictorial motif, and a circular frame in black, grey, white, red, yellow and green. The pictorial motif consists of a T-shaped church placed on top of a book with red lettering on the spine. The circular frame consists of green lettering framed by yellow. The outside yellow circular band is wider, and contained in a narrow black circle. Evenly spaced brown marks suggests that the textile has been pinned down at some point (possibly using drawing pins).
