sleeve; wedding clothing

One of a pair of bride’s sleeves. White gauze figured with sliver foliage and an elastic band around the top. The decorated cuffs are edged with a tablet-woven strip (c. ½” wide) in red, green, gold and black. Above this is a band of embroidery in chain stitch: flowers with 8 petals around a yellow disc, central, in red, brown with blue and green borders with green leaves and stems between; above and below the flowers there are borders of black discs with interlocking bands of red and yellow; topmost is a border of twin discs joined in a looser chain stitch. Home-made, witness the poor finish. The sleeves match the bride’s wrap 2004.368.
